Baby Massage

What it’s all about…

Infant massage has ancient beginnings and is grounded in the therapeutic benefits of touch. Vimala McClure is credited with bringing the ancient art of infant massage to the West. The infant massage combines traditional Indian massage with Swedish massage, yoga and reflexology.

Nurturing touch is an important way to promote secure parent-baby attachments and massage is a beautiful yet simple way in which these attachments can be stregthened. Infant massage is used widely throughout Asia, Eastern Europe and Latin America.

What are the benefits of baby massage?

Whilst I am training, I am offering free baby massage classes.

Once qualified, I will be offering classes in a range of set ups to suit you and your baby’s needs.

Please scroll down to find out more about the variety of class structures I will be offering.

What I will be offering:
1:1 or Group Sessions

Once fully qualified, I will be offering a range of set ups. Some classes will be held in public venues, giving you and your baby the opportunity to get out and meet other parents and babies. I will also be offering home sessions, where I come to you and run group sessions for yourself and friends or as 1:1 sessions.

Each class is appprox 1hr.

Public Group Classes

5 week course
Newborn - pre crawling

If you’re wanting to meet fellow parents, this is the course for you.

With a maximum of 8 parents and babies on the course, I can ensure I give the best level of guidance in a group setting.

The massage will build up in layers, and you’ll learn a new part each week whilst also practicing the previously taught strokes.

Private Group Sessions

4 week course
Newborn - pre crawling

This class is for you, if you’d like to have classes at home with a group of friends and their babies. These classes follow the same routine as the public classes but will be for smaller groups. I would recommend 3-4 parents and babies, but can accommodate more if wanted.

Private 1:1 classes

Dependent upon you and your baby’s needs
Newborn - pre crawling

If you’re wanting my complete focus on you and your baby, this is the class for you. After our consultation, I can tailor the massage to your baby’s specific needs. You might just want to have one session focusing on a specific aspect, such as the tummy massage for digestive issues and colic or you might be wanting to learn the whole routine. I will adjust as required to you and your baby’s needs.

Twins Massage

Offered in both public group and private sessions.
Newborn - pre crawling

Book one course and attend with your twins. I have trained in twins massage, and you will learn how to massage both of your babies simultaneously.

How old should my baby be?

New born - pre crawling

You can attend my baby massage classes with your newborn baby right up until they are crawling. Newborn babies gain a vast number of benefits from baby massage and as long as they have had their newborn and infant physical examination (NIPE) then you do not need to wait until they have had their 6-8 week postnatal check.

Following NHS guidance, we won’t use oil on babies less than four weeks old due to their developing skin. If you have any concerns about your baby or are awaiting further medical follow ups, such as hip scans, please contact me as we can adapt the massage as necessary for your baby.

Initally, your baby might not tolerate long sessions of massage. In my classes we build up the routine in chunks, giving your baby time to get used to this touch.

As your baby becomes more active and begins crawling, you might find they aren’t as keen to stay in one place for their massage. However, I can suggest ways to incorporate massage into your toddler’s day.

If your baby was premature, you can also attend. There are numerous benefits for premature babies, from teaching them positive touch if they have had lots of medical intervention, to strengthening and toning their muscles. I will work with you to adjust the massage as appropriate.
