Mindful Tots FAQs

Why does my baby not enjoy their massage?

Babies can take some time to tolerate touch, particularly if they have experienced hospital treatments which may have been invasive and they have associated touch with perhaps something negative. Start slow and build up the massage over time.

In my classes, we start with a short massage session to get babies used to the touch, and over the course we add more massage strokes each week.

Always ask permission as this gives them the opportunity to communicate to you whether they are open and happy to have their massage. Always be led by your baby.

What age can I start baby massage?

Baby massage is suitable from the newborn stage. They may only manage short massage sessions, so I would advise you to be realistic with your expectations. We can discuss specific needs for your baby before the class as necessary.

Can I bring my own oil?

Due to potential allergies, I am afraid that in the group classes you are unable to use your own oil. I provide two different oils for you to use with your baby. These oils are cold-pressed, non-scented organic oils in order to be as kind as possible to your babies skin. You will need to carry out a patch test at least 24hr prior to the first class. More information about this can be found in the Registration form.

My baby has had their immunisations, can I still massage them?

It is best to wait 24hours after their immunisations. If they then seem well, you can massage, but avoid the injection site for the first week.
